THE HISTORY AND POSTAL HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF SMYRNA
UP TO THE END OF THE GREEK PERIOD.
This book, originally published in German by ARGE Griechenland e.V. im BDPH e.V., was translated into English by Robert Wightman and edited by Michael Fulford. The translation comprising 280 pages of printed text with many clear illustrations covers an introductory history of Smyrna and has a long section on the Turkish Post in Smyrna followed by chapters covering each of the ten foreign postal agencies that operated in that city. The comprehensive chapter on the British Post Office comprises 15 pages of text and 6 pages on postal markings etc. Although for the post WWI period it raises a lot of questions still to be fully answered, I certainly recommend this book to all those interested in the postal history of the British Levant.
This English translation is available as spiral bound printed A4 sheets at a cost of £20 plus postage. To obtain a copy please contact Michael Fulford, Ruth Cottage, Main Street, East Langton, Leicestershire LE16 7TW, UK or e-mail mike@mikefulford.fnet.co.uk.
